Sylvester Stallone is not best known for his comedy roles. But Hollywood’s premier action hero happily laughs at himself in Warburtons’ new spot.
First shown in the April 11 edition of Britain’s Got Talent, the full 110” version of The Deliverers shows him pitching the idea for a movie to the baking giant’s CEO Jonathan Warburton – and then hilariously parodying characters and scenes from box office smashes Rocky and The Expendables.
In January, Stallone was filmed alongside Warburtons’ staff at the company’s bakery in Whitwood, West Yorkshire and then in various locations around Bolton.
With former Father Ted director Declan Lowney behind the camera the visual gags come thick and fast. But we have to wait for the inevitable burst of Stallone’s signature song Eye Of The Tiger, the chart-busting theme from 1982’s Rocky III.
“It’s a great song which stands for the triumph of hard work and commitment over the impossible,” says WCRS Senior Account Director Tim Boxall.
“But we wanted the soundtrack to work like a film score and use different pieces of music to carry the suspense, action, humour and emotion until everything crescendos with the final bread delivery montage and that big Eye Of The Tiger guitar riff.”
The Survivor title was cleared by Tin Drum while three further sequences used in the film, by noted composers Terry Devine-King, Gareth Croker and Sheila Mardikian Spencer, were sourced from library music specialists Audio Networks and EMI Production Music.
Tin Drum has recently worked with WCRS on other high profile TV campaigns for BUPA, B&Q and Candy Crush.
