The King is Dead. Long Live…well, you know the rest. And in the case of Elvis Presley it’s not all history.
After club cuts of A Little Less Conversation and Rubberneckin’ proved that demand for Sony Music’s erstwhile Artist of the Twentieth Century could be rolled over into the next millennium, world famous French theatre group Cirque Du Soleil secured the rights to follow their successful Beatles show Love with another Las Vegas spectacular built around remixes of Elvis The Pelvis’ greatest hits.
Among the titles on the resulting 2010 CD Viva Elvis was this hi-octane revival of Bossa Nova Baby, originally penned by Lieber and Stoller for the 1963 movie Fun In Acapulco.
As the soundbed to the latest in a long line of exhilarating Heineken campaigns, it was well-aired on the continent over the summer before finally breaking on British screens earlier this week.
Whether there’s quite enough in these grooves to lift the great man back into the UK Singles Chart remains to be seen.
But Sony is clearly under no doubt that Bossa Nova Baby will rekindle enough interest in the old RCA catalogue to merit using it as the title track of a brand new Ultimate Elvis Presley Party Album release.
