Pool Party, the latest Doritos For The Bold TV commercial, plays like the first act of a teen comedy and boasts a backing track masquerading as a bona fide chart anthem.
PepsiCo’s corn chip brand and its agency AMV BBDO certainly haven’t skimped on this hilarious tale of three horny youngsters on the summer holiday of their dreams, shot by Roar Uthaug, the up-and-coming Norwegian director currently working on the next Tomb Raider movie.
“The film was already in the can when we were asked to provide a commercial dance track that sounded authentic and credible and could underpin the narrative by building across three scenes,” explains Sari Morein, Head of Production at London’s Hush Music.
The initial track Piece Of Me was put together by writing and production pairing of Colin Flynn and Anthony Galatis, whose credits include remixes for international stars such as Usher, Enrique Iglesias, and Lil Wayne.
But it was the late addition of a vocal by Paloma Faith’s backing singer Nym – aka Naomi Miller the co-composer of Duke Dumont’s 2014 chart topper Won’t Look Back – which, Morein continues, “took it to the next level and really got the party started.”
