The film isn’t due to hit theatres until Christmas.
But the official trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s next movie, The Hateful Eight – a tough tale of bounty hunters in the Old West starring Samuel L Jackson and Kurt Russell – is out already, making it one of the most keenly anticipated releases of 2015.
It also marks the highest point yet in the stellar sync career of UK rock act The Heavy.
With releases on Ninja Tune’s Counter Records imprint and its publishing arm Just Isn’t Music (JIM), the West Country quartet is well-known to UK TV audiences through spots for top brands like Strongbow, Jaguar and Guinness.
They have also attained cult status in the US thanks to an exceptionally high profile Superbowl ad and record-breaking appearances on David Letterman’s late night TV show.
According to JIM’s Martin Dobson, the request for the Zeppelinesque Same Ol’ – from The Heavy’s 2012 album The Glorious Dead – came directly from producer Harvey Weinstein’s office.
“Work on the trailer took about three months and we know Quentin tried out other songs,” he continues.
“But it’s clear from the final cut that Same Ol’ was always at the heart of the decision-making process.”
Ninja Tune’s US sync team liaises with American sync agents ZYNC on The Heavy and alongside JIM in the UK has licensed tracks into nearly 100 TV, film and product ads, including a four-episode Pepsi commercial which catapulted the band into the Japanese album charts in 2014.
The Heavy are currently recording their fourth album for release next year.
