His debut Virgin EMI album isn’t due until Summer 2017, but gravel-voiced Brit Barns Courtney has already cemented an enviable reputation with Tinseltown’s tastemakers by hitching his bluesy new single Glitter And Gold to the trailer for Matthew McConaughey’s upcoming movie Gold.
It marks the Ipswich-born singer songwriter’s second silver screen success. His first, Fire, became a US Top 50 Rock hit after inclusion on the soundtrack of 2015’s Burnt, starring Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller.
Glitter And Gold was among a number of new releases played to film promotion and trailer specialist Empire Design by Universal Globe UK team members Greg Turner and Fran Goncalves in February.
“It stood out particularly and I earmarked it for later use,” says Empire Design’s Will Quiney
“When StudioCanal sent us Gold to work on I immediately thought that it would be a great fit. Obviously the ‘Gold' lyric might have been a key in that! Fortunately the clients were into it and we were over the moon when it went to finish.”
Described as a cross between the Humphrey Bogart classic Treasure of Sierra Madre and 2013’s Wolf Of Wall Street, Gold is scheduled for release in December and is already tipped as a potential Oscar winner.
