It’s exactly five years since Foster’s screened the first ‘agony aunt’ TV ad starring the Good Call beach bums Brad and Dan.
At least a dozen different spots later the pair have fielded some of the burning issues confronting today’s New Man with enough outrageously old-school Aussie advice and über-blokeish bonhomie to make them either the most hilarious or the most hated double act on the box… depending on your gender, your taste in lager and/or your PC count!
Previous films featuring the Foster’s Gold brand have seen Brad (the handsome one with a genuine six pack of his own) venturing out of the hut leaving couch potato Dan to mind the phone.
To launch the new Foster’s Radler range, which is essentially a lemonade shandy under a German name, they’ve both been tempted outside to get in touch with their feminine sides by playing volleyball with the Sheilas.
So who have agency adam&eveDDB turned to for music to mark this genuinely heroic moment? Why, Sylvester Stallone’s favourites Survivor and their 1985 track Burning Heart from the Rocky IV movie, that’s who.
It’s all wonderfully ironic, of course – otherwise we might think Brad and Dan really were half-witted. Which some Australians could find offensive. Strewth!
