In a bid to turn brewing up a cuppa into a truly trendy experience, Lipton has launched its handsome high tech T.O tea machine with a stunning commercial featuring synchronized swimmers from Canada’s revolutionary theatre troupe Cirque Du Soleil.
The film, a live underwater ballet in which brightly coloured dancers represent exotic tea leaves, was jointly conceived by agencies Tribal Worldwide and adam&eveDDB.
It was directed by Saam Farahmand, promo maker to stars like Mark Ronson, Janet Jackson and Cheryl Cole using state of the art in-camera techniques and computer generated imagery.
The soundtrack is a version of Tchaikovsky’s Dance of The Cygnets from Swan Lake given a modern makeover by Dom Howard (pka DJ and remixer Ruckspin) from Ninja Tune/ Counter Records’ acclaimed Submotion Orchestra.
According to Big Sync Music supervisor Phil Lawlor, choosing and then finessing a final mix took very nearly all of last year.
“The ambition was to create a blend of the familiar but yet unexpected,” he says.
“The big challenge was hitting all the visual cues on screen. We spent huge amounts of time and energy making sure the music punctuated the beautiful choreography.”
