If, as some media pundits predict, 2017 is going to see a growth in specially commissioned syncs by modern classical composers, then you can expect to hear more of Biggi Hilmars, the young Icelander responsible for the score to Thomson’s eye-catching, freeze-frame Moments spot.
Shot in Crete during the summer, an offline edit was already in the can when agency RKCR Y&R first consulted supervisor Dan Neale at Native over the soundtrack.
Aware of the package holiday brand’s predilection for piano-driven instrumentals, Neale made immediate contact with Rosie Hill, Head of Creative Services at Imagem.
“We introduced Biggi to Dan when we first signed him in November 2015,” says Hill.
Other composers were considered but, according to Neale, what swung it for the Rekajvick resident – who is beginning to make a name for himself through movie trailers and commercials for such as Mercedes Benz and IBM – was “his interesting use of sounds and layers which could play really nicely against the static images.
“The final score needed to be emotive but not saccharine, and Biggi can convey emotion while keeping it contemporary,” Neale adds.
Hilmars recorded the track, which is not commercially available, at Abbey Road with the Chamber Orchestra of London.
