Punning apart, Diageo really pushed the boat out for this latest Johnnie Walker Blue campaign!
And the drinks giant certainly got its money’s worth when it hired Jude Law and Giancarlo Giannini to endorse one of the world’s top tipples.
Naturally, there was rather more to this job than simply sipping scotch in the sun on a yacht in the Caribbean. The two stars also had to hoof it a little down at Wilton’s Music Hall – East London’s legendary 19th century venue.
Not content with mastering a couple of dance steps, Law insisted on playing all his own piano parts too! Or at least for the short seconds he is seen tinkling the ivories on screen.
Those few bars and a recurring clarinet motif were created by Colin Smith and Simon Elms on behalf of Soho’s leading bespoke music provider Eclectic.
The pair were also responsible for the new big band arrangement of Ray Bryant’s 1957 hit The Madison Way which was a key feature of director Jake ‘son of Ridley’ Scott’s original script.
Sadly you’ll have to go to a multiplex to see how well the sound and vision came together: at over six minutes long, this is one spot you can safely bet won’t be dropped into the middle of Coronation Street!
