Designer fashion outlet McArthurGlen celebrates its 21st anniversary with a sleek spot featuring a special recording of George Michael’s Freedom 90 by new Universal artist Norma Jean Martine.
The 23 year old US-born, BMG-signed songwriter is already well-known in Europe for singles and album cuts by platinum-selling pop artists such as Giorgia, Marco Mengoni and Italian X factor winner Michele Bravi.
Most recently she co-composed the title track to Ronan Keating’s Top 5 album Time Of My Life.
Freedom was already a firm favourite with ad agency WARL – and renowned fashion photographer Nick Haddow who directed the commercial – when Universal’s Globe team put Martine’s name forward to perform it.
“Other artists were shortlisted but Norma proved a natural fit,” says Globe MD Marc Robinson.
“Collaborating with McArthurGlen on a campaign like this has provided a great opportunity to showcase her talent to a global audience.”
The commercial will be shown on terrestrial and cable TV in nine territories throughout 2016, including France, Germany and Canada. It seeks to showcase the commitment McArthurGlen's 22 out of town shopping centre stores, of which 6 are in the UK, offers its customers via its network of over 900 brand partners including Armani, Burberry, Coach, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, J Crew, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Prada.
Freedom is available to purchase on iTunes and on Spotify for streaming but you can click on the image (right) to see Martine performing the song, which was a transatlantic hit for George Michael in 1990.
McArthurGlen's campaign lays the groundwork for a Universal promotional plan which continues with the release in May of Martine’s next single No Gold and a debut album - featuring Freedom as a bonus track - scheduled for the Autumn.
